The Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers — the organization that invited w-edwards-deming to lecture in Japan in 1950 and established the Deming Prize. JUSE's quality education programs, study groups, and publications created the infrastructure through which statistical quality control permeated Japanese industry. For TPS, JUSE's significance is as the institutional bridge between Deming's methods and Toyota's practice — the PDCA cycle, statistical thinking, and management responsibility for quality all flowed through JUSE's educational programs before taiichi-ohno incorporated them into TPS. The Deming Prize that Toyota won in 1965 was administered by JUSE and required a comprehensive quality management system — preparing for the Deming Prize helped systematize TPS across all of Toyota.
