Xlibris is a self-publishing platform and print-on-demand publisher. Its significance to the Richards KB is narrow but concrete: it is the publisher of certain-to-win, Richards's primary book-length application of john-boyd's strategic framework to business management.

The choice of Xlibris for certain-to-win reflects the certain-to-win-publication context: the book emerged from a community of practitioners and enthusiasts rather than from a commercial publishing pipeline, and self-publishing allowed Richards to reach that niche audience without the delays and commercial pressures of traditional publication. The Boyd community had a tradition of distributing ideas outside normal channels — Boyd himself never published a book — and the Xlibris publication of certain-to-win continues that tradition in a civilian context.

The self-published nature of certain-to-win has both limited and shaped its reception: it circulates primarily within communities already oriented toward Boyd (the boyd-and-beyond-conference world, the agile-alliance periphery) rather than through mainstream business book distribution. This contrasts with the wider reach of robert-coram's commercially published Boyd biography.
