What are we looking for? We don't want academic conjecture. We don't want policy wonk double-speak jargon. Your editors, Peter Miller and Richard Civille, just want it brief and to the point, in plain English, from your point of view.

We're looking for two types of articles.

1.) Front Line Stories. First, if you're deeply involved in community media, community networking, or community technology where you live, send us a short, hard-hitting one half to one page story about your work. Why short? We know you're crazy busy and your time is important. We want your story to be read by many others. We want to be sure we have room for lots of stories. Make sense? Great, get to work and send us a very short description on what you'd like to share. Do it right now!

2.) Policy that Works or Must Change. Second, if you're involved in community media policy, at the community, state or national level, we want clearly expressed 2-3 page articles that will make your reader say "Aha!". You're wringing your hands: "We have just got to do something about...!" You're ready to yell "We made it work here, we can do this everywhere and here's how!" You know the time has come for a national campaign. What's your vision?

Tell us: Where are you struggling to get to? What gets in your way? Where does abstract, confusing telecommunication policy, and a baffling, light speed marketplace affect your ability to get your work done? What do we need to do about it? Let's tell it like it is in plain English. What is your vision? How can community media groups intervene in Washington to effect a more community-oriented implementation of the new Telecom Act? How can we become involved at the state level in telecommunication mergers to ensure public interests are met and in state and local universal service campaigns to ensure acccess and equity? Will community networks become Community Portals? How will the community media movement meet the broadband revolution? What opportunities or threats are posed by commercial services in your community?

So, roll-up your sleeves. Tell a story about your community media work, where you live. Or help outline the big picture and promote a strategy for technology access and democratic media.

Any questions? Let us know.
