[RRE]1st European Anti-Malware Conference

``` [I held off on sending this out because I couldn't handle the word "malware". It wore me down though. Maybe I'm making up for the mal- um, something-or-other that I apparently incurred by calling for a worm attack on NT. It was a joke, okay? And so was the Microsoft buyout of RRE. Sheesh. I hate those smiley symbols, but I sure do comprehend the point of them. Apropos of nothing, here is a bunch of useful URL's on other topics:
CALL FOR PAPERS
1st European Anti-Malware Conference EICAR - European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research
March 4 to March 7, 2000 Brussels, Belgium
SUBMISSION DEADLINE for PAPERS: JULY 1, 1999
The dynamic and rapid development of new technologies presents an ever-increasing opportunity for the malevolent exploitation of such technologies, requiring combined efforts in research and development of defense measures.
The unprecedented availability of information, stored on innumerable interconnected servers and ready for instantaneous access from anywhere in the world, has led to new opportunities for information gathering and exploitation, which in some cases are carried out within a legislative vacuum.
The First European Anti-Malware (9th annual EICAR) conference brings together experts from industry, government, academy, and research, as well as end-users interested in security issues, in a forum designed to both heighten awareness of critical issues and provide practical solutions.
Papers pertaining to malicious code, unwanted side-effects or malfunction, network security, information age and society, cryptography and the protection of privacy and anonymity, new media, and electronic commerce, are welcome. Subject matter may be theoretical, empirical, or methodology oriented.
We are interested in receiving Research Papers, Research in Progress Reports, Case Studies and proposals for Symposia. For full details see http://www.eicar.dk/submit/call.html or send e-mail to call@eicar.dk Best Paper Proceedings will be available in electronic format at the conference.
Who is EICAR? EICAR is a not-for-profit organization that combines experts from university, industry and government who are concerned with technical and legal issues related to the security of networks, databases and information in general. These issues include, but are not limited to, efforts against computer crime (e.g., cryptography), fraud and the misuse of computers or networks (e.g., relationship of attitudes and security measures with behavioral outcomes), inclusive malicious exploitation of personal data as well as computer viruses or Trojan Horses (e.g., detection/protection measures).
For more information about EICAR please visit http://www.eicar.org
