PICT Conference '95 - Final Call for Abstracts, Papers, Proposals

``` Date: Mon, 28 Nov 1994 16:34:08 From: William.Dutton@brunel.ac.uk Subject: PICT Conference '95 - Final Call for Abstracts, Papers, Proposals
An International Conference on
The Social and Economic Implications of INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES
The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre Westminster, London, 10-12 May 1995
The UK Programme on Information and Communication Technologies (PICT) invites abstracts, papers and panel proposals for its forthcoming conference, which focuses on the social and economic implications of information and communication technologies. The conference will celebrate the conclusion of a decade of PICT research, review the problems confronting the field, and the opportunities which lie before it, and debate future directions for research, policy and practice.
PICT has sought to stimulate social and economic research on information and communication technologies (ICTs) that will inform both policy and practice. As PICT draws to a close, we wish to bring together those involved with the programme over the last decade - as researchers, sponsors, critics and audiences - to discuss what we have learned about the social and economic role of ICTs.
The conference will begin on the evening of 10 May and be followed by two full days of sessions. It will be closed by an evening event on Friday 12 May to toast the conclusion of PICT. The programme will include various panels, composed of prominent scholars, practitioners and policy-makers, which will discuss some of the major social issues tied to ICTs. These panel sessions will be complemented by a set of parallel sessions organised around invited papers, as well as papers chosen on the basis of a competitive review.
We invite the submission of academic papers, including doctoral research, from any discipline or perspective that report original research on aspects of ICTs. We also invite papers that provide a synthesis of research findings on information and communication technologies, or address central issues of public policy and regulation, or highlight new directions for the field. We also welcome papers submitted by doctoral students, for whom one or more specially designated sessions are being organized. The UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is supporting this conference through the PICT Programme. Delegates will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs, available at a discounted rate, and for a contribution towards optional social events. A conference registration fee will cover all participation during the regular day sessions, including meals and refreshments.
Please send three copies of any abstract, full paper or panel proposal by 15 December 1994 to William Dutton, Chair, Programme Committee, PICT, Brunel University, Uxbridge, Middlesex UB8 3PH, United Kingdom. Fax: (0)895 233828 Tel: (0)895 233379 e-mail: William.Dutton@Brunel.ac.uk
The Programme Committee includes: Professor Rod Coombs, CROMTEC at UMIST; Professor Emeritus Jay Blumler, Leeds; Professor John Goddard, CURDS at University of Newcastle; Professor Robin Mansell, SPRU at University of Sussex; Dr Robin Williams, RCSS at University of Edinburgh; and Professor Steve Woolgar, CRICT at Brunel University. ```
