``` Periodically, maybe every few weeks, somebody writes to claim that they have been receiving messages from RRE without ever having subscribed. These people seem to have nothing in common, and I have never heard of any of them. I have begun to wonder if some weird person out there is forging subscription messages. It wouldn't be hard: just write a demon that trawls newsgroups and listservs for addresses and signs them up for random mailing lists. Has anybody ever heard of such a thing? It's hard to imagine what the thrill would be, given that it would be difficult to observe the resulting minor havoc.
