PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 16, 1994

ANALYTICAL REVIEW OF THE LIBRARY OF THE FUTURE Available from the Council on Library Resources

The Council on Library Resources announces the publication of Analytical Review of the Library of the Future.

In order to provide a synthesis of the current thinking about the library of the future, Dr. Karen M. Drabenstott, University of Michigan School of Information and Library Studies, examined published literature of the library and publishing communities from the early 1980's to date. An extensive bibliography was compiled and the Analytical Review of the Library of the Future summarizes the trends, topics, issues, and concerns identified by the many individuals writing about the library of the future. Included in the report is a collection of definitions, overviews of current technologies and tools, a discussion of digital library models, brief descriptions of active projects, and a concluding thinkpiece on the future that incorporates observations based on the literature. The report includes a bibliography of the cited literature (about half of the citations collected) as well as a combined author- subject index. Research assistance for the project was provided by Celeste M. Burman.

Published copies of the Analytical Review of the Library of the Future (200 pages bound and printed) are available from the Council on Library Resources for $15.00 prepaid. (International orders, please add $5.00 for additional shipping charges.)

Diskettes (3.5-inch) of the Pro-Cite (TM) bibliography of the library of the future literature (375 entries) also may be obtained from the Council on Library Resources for $5.00 prepaid.

Send prepaid orders to: Council on Library Resources 1400 16th St. N.W., Suite 510 Washington, DC 20036-2217
