* About CANTUS database and file structure Basic information about the nature and purpose of this database is given in this document. It also includes a description of individual records and fields as well as explanations of symbols and conventions needed to interpret the information.* New Features and Update Information [date] This menu selection lets you know of recent changes or additions to the CANTUS database. Note that the menu displays the date of the most recent modification of any of the files.* CANTUS text files This selection presents a menu of files in ASCII format. You may view them on the screen or copy them to your system.* CANTUS binary files for faster downloading This menu contains a version of the files in a more compact format. You will probably want to use this menu if you are downloading to a personal computer.* Search CANTUS database for specific chants This selection links to a program to search the entire database. You may type a few words of the incipit to learn immediately which sources contain the chant in question. The search program returns a menu of records that match the user's request. By selecting one of these records you may see the data displayed in a labeled, easy-to-read format.* Catalog of the Dom Mocquereau Microfilm Collection This collection is available at the Mullen Library at the Catholic University of America. It contains over 400 microfilms of medieval music manuscripts, including those indexed by CANTUS files.

I do not represent this site...I just found it and thought it would be of interest. I make every attempt to identify the point of origin on every site I find. If I have made an error, please let me know.

Also, I assume everyone reading this post will access the site via gopher. I have no idea (and do not attempt to find out) if the site supports public telnet access, or if the URL has been constructed correctly.
