February 10, 1995 Dear Colleague:
On behalf of the Bay Area Digital GeoResource (BADGER) program team and Smart Valley, Inc., it is our pleasure to invite you and your colleagues to a pair of meetings to exchange ideas, and, in particular, to evoke suggestions that will help ensure the success of BADGER.
As you know, BADGER is an internet-based visualization system for geographic data of the San Francisco Bay Area developed from satellite and aerial imagery, maps and databases. The system will be available to municipalities, utilities and other commercial, environmental and non-profit interests. Three high-payoff applications have been selected as candidates to demonstrate the applied value of imagery and related data sets. These are non-point source storm water discharge, vegetation management, and fire hazard prediction and risk assessment.
We have scheduled the two meetings for Monday, February 27th, at the Mountain View City Council chambers, 500 Castro Street.
The first meeting, "Geographic Information Applications," will run from 9:00 A.M. until noon and is intended for those who require or anticipate a need for incorporating geographically based data into their business operations.
The second meeting, "Mapping, Computing, and Connectivity Technology," will run from 1:30 P.M. until 4:30 P.M. Intended for vendors, technologists, and service suppliers, this meeting will focus on the BADGER service, including the planned base-map and tools for access and visualization.
Further information is available below or from the Bay Area Shared Information Consortium (BASIC) at (415) 528-4084.
Each meeting will begin with an overview of the BADGER program and detail on the topic of the specific meeting. The majority of the meeting will be devoted to listening to your suggestions and responding to your questions. Participants will also be encouraged to complete a survey. Ideas gathered through the meetings and survey will be used by the BADGER team to build a pilot demonstration later in 1995, develop a more extensive demonstration in 1996, and commence Bay Area-wide service in 1997. We also want to enlist organizations and individuals who wish to work with the program team.
If you would like to submit comments or join the team but are unable to attend, please fill out the e-mail form below.
Thank you very much for your support of BADGER. We look forward to your participation in this key BADGER activity.
Sincerely,
David Milgram Donald C. Wimberly Program Manager Manager, BASIC
