An Invitation to Particpate in the 1994 Exploratorium CitySpace Project
* ** * *
Come Build it Yourself.
CitySpace is a virtual city model built by kids across the internet. The model is made up of stories, pictures, sounds, and 3D objects from kids' neighborhoods and imaginary spaces worldwide. CitySpace is a place to connect with other kids, to share each other's work, and to experiment with emerging digital communications tools. The model exists as an onsite exhibit at the Exploratorium, and as a shared environment across the internet.
During the week of March 7-13, individuals and groups of kids from across the network are invited to join in the ongoing construction of the CitySpace model. What to send? Stories about your neighborhood, scanned photographs, hand drawn pictures, audio samples, 3d models- anything you can digitize and anything you can imagine. Working closely with a team of kids, artists, and developers at the Exploratorium, these submisions will become part of the evolving model, shared by each of its builders.
The model will become an interactive exhibit as part of the Exploratorium's Multimedia Playground Exhibition, and demonstrations will be given throughout the week. For distant CitySpace builders and others interested in exploring the collaborative results of the model, live video connections can be made to CitySpace using public domain CU-SeeMe software. For those unable to receive transmissions using CU-SeeMe, still images and short digital video clips will be made publically available on the network.
For more information on how to participate, mail to info@cityspace.org, or using the web, connect to www.exploratorium.edu and look under "Current Exploratorium Events". CU-SeeMe was developed at Cornell is available via anonymous FTP from gated.cornell.edu in the pub/video directory.
* CitySpace at the Exploratorium has been made possible by USENIX and SGI Inc. * ```
