THE 1994 ALLIANCE FOR COMMUNITY MEDIA FARWEST REGIONAL CONFERENCE

The Alliance for Community Media FarWest Regional Fall Conference is just around the corner. This year's conference is being held at the Hyatt Rickey's in Palo Alto, October 20-22. You will be assured of having a good time as well as becoming more knowledgeable about the National Information Infrastructure (NII),more commonly known as the Information SuperHighway, and the issues affecting the industry.

The theme of this year's conference is "Assess 2001: Sharing Strategies for the Evolving Community Media." In the light of new technology, the Alliance believes it is imperative to share strategies with other industry professionals in order to insure us all an on-ramp onto the Information SuperHighway. We wantto have assess to information, but to also have assess to distribute information. We are inviting members from such organizations as the National Lawyers Guild, Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, The Film Arts Foundation, National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture, Artist Television Access, International Interactive Communications Society, Bay Area Video Coalition, California Cable Television Association, and the Committee for Democratic Communications.

Workshops and roundtable discussions will include subjects such as Media Literacy, Interactive Media, Production Techniques from Experts, Public Policy and Access Issues, Censorship and Privacy Issues, Community On-line Networking, Equipment Purchasing, Fundraising, Training, Promotions, and Outreach, as well as Navigating the Internet, and demonstrations of non-linear editing systems.

A "Futurist Forum" will focus on the future of new technology and its assessibility. A panel of eclectic Bay Area "thinkers" such as Nicole Lazaro, Co-founder of the San Francisco State Multi Media Extension Program; Tom Mandell, from the Stanford Research Institute; and R.U. Sirius noted "Cyberwriter" and media critic will discuss their views.
