Jez Humble co-authored "Continuous Delivery" (2010) with Dave Farley and later "Accelerate" (2018) with Nicole Forsgren and gene-kim. His work on continuous delivery operationalized several Poppendieck principles: deliver-as-fast-as-possible through deployment pipelines, build-integrity-in through automated testing, and pull-systems-in-software through deployment-on-demand. The Poppendiecks' argument that small batches and fast feedback loops amplify learning found its most concrete infrastructure expression in the continuous delivery pipeline — an automated system that makes deployment a routine, low-risk event rather than a ceremony. leading-lean-software-development-2009's organizational themes directly prefigure what Humble, Forsgren, and Kim would measure empirically in the DORA metrics research.
