Andrea Gabor's account of the American quality revolution through the lens of three companies — Ford, Xerox, and General Motors. The book provides the most detailed published account of Deming's engagement with Ford and CEO donald-petersen, including the internal resistance Deming faced, the specific changes he drove (statistical methods on the assembly line, supplier relationships, management culture), and the Taurus project that became Ford's greatest success. Gabor had exceptional access to Ford executives and Deming himself. The book documents the contrast between Ford (which embraced Deming's philosophy) and GM (which adopted only the superficial techniques), illustrating Deming's argument that transformation requires philosophical commitment, not just tools.
