The Motorcade Method (formerly working-titled "Stack the Deck") is a sequel to rolling-rocks-downhill, described by Ching as "a business manifesto hidden inside a short, punchy, fictionalised story." It is based on Ching's real-life consulting work and represents his approach for helping business leaders deliver VIP Agile projects to aggressive dates.
The governing metaphor is a presidential motorcade: find your most important project, treat it like the president's car, and clear every obstacle in its path. This is the TOC focusing logic -- subordinate everything to the constraint -- applied at the project-portfolio level rather than within a single project. Where rolling-rocks-downhill dramatizes rescuing a single failing project, The Motorcade Method addresses the upstream question: which project deserves the motorcade treatment, and what does subordination look like when you have multiple competing priorities?
The book incorporates the "dollarize-the-prize" technique -- quantifying project value in financial terms to guide prioritization decisions. Ching describes the content as "what I say to clients behind closed doors -- just without the swearing," positioning it as the distillation of consulting experience into accessible narrative form.
Publication was announced for August 2025 on Ching's Substack, with a launch reported in late January 2026. The book belongs to the bottleneck-guy-brand-period and represents Ching's most direct attempt to bridge his consulting practice at oddsocks-consulting and his writing practice since rolling-rocks-downhill.
